avast! Installation and Operation

Welcome to the avast! anti-virus installation tutorial. avast! is a world
renowned anti-virus program and one of the very few programs that still
run on older Win 9x machines. In this tutorial, we will install and configure
avast! as well as set up and run a scan. If you already have avast!
installed, and just want to set up a scan, you can skip to the scanning
page here.

Installing avast!

After you have downloaded avast!, double-click on the installer icon to
start the installation wizard.

Press next to continue to the next page of the wizard. Read through the readme and select next to go to the license agreement. Select "I Agree" and click next again. Click next when asked about the installation directory
and click "Typical" for the installation type then click next. Click next one more time after verifying the installation settings and avast! will begin the installation process. If you wish, you can perform a thorough boot time scan of your computer when you restart. After the installation is finished, you will need to restart your computer. Save any thing you have open, close all programs, and reboot.\

Licensing avast!

After you've rebooted you will receive an important information screen.

We've reprinted the screen here for you convenience. In order to fully use avast! you must register it. Registration is free. To register avast! right click on the avast! icon in the system tray. (It's the little blue sphere with the "a" on it.) Click "About avast!" and, in the window that appears, click on the "License Key" button.

Click on the "Program registration" link and you will be taken to a web page where where you can submit your email address. A registration code will be emailed to you shortly after. Paste this code inside the white box and click "OK".
